Railway Street Presbyterian Church came into existence in 1860 when the Revival of 1859 resulted in First Lisburn Presbyterian Church being inadequate to accommodate those who sought to worship. Services were held in a hay loft in Castle Street led by the Rev John Powell, but in February 1861, the congregation called the Rev David John Clarke.
